Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Grant Award
The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District (CUMTD) was awarded a $15.7M U.S. Department of Transportation TIGER Grant for transportation corridor enhancements in Champaign-Urbana. CUMTD coordinated with the University of Illinois, City of Champaign, and City of Urbana on the proposal, which will enhance pedestrian access routes, bicycle lanes, and vehicle flow by constructing complete street corridors. The $15.7M award has a local match of approximately $19M, $3.6M of which came from the university. An area of Armory Avenue near the Main Library will undergo a major reconfiguration as part of the funding. Green, White, and Wright Streets will also receive significant upgrades.
Facility Condition Assessment
F&S and University Administration representatives met to discuss next steps for updating the campus facility condition assessment. A partial campus assessment was performed to update 14-year-old data. The first portion of this assessment focused on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems in 141 buildings. The hybrid data set from the combined studies indicates the deferred maintenance backlog stands at $535M. Completion of the facility assessments will provide reliable, timely data to assist in developing deferred maintenance strategic plans.
